CYBERSEC for Seniors is an annual educational workshop dedicated to people aged 50+ with basic computer skills and Internet literacy. The event will take place on 10 October 2017, during the second day of the CYBERSEC 2017 conference (Venue: ICE Krakow Congress Centre).

In a series of tutorials with ICT specialists, the participants will learn about the dangers that lurk in cyberspace. The lecturers will talk at length about phishing as one of the most common methods used by cybercriminals.

During the event the attendees will learn:

  • about the most common fraud techniques: phishing scam, personal data theft, and spam (sending unsolicited commercial messages)
  • how to secure access to their online accounts
  • how to perform financial transactions online via computers and mobile devices, while respecting Internet safety rules

IDEA

CYBERSEC for Seniors aims to raise awareness among our senior citizens (Internet users over 50) about cyberthreats and expand their digital competencies. The project plays a very important social role as this age group is particularly vulnerable to hacks and cyberattacks. We have launched this initiative to make the older adults more aware and cautious, and to advise them how they can protect themselves against potential threats.

FORMER EDITION

CYBERSEC for Seniors was held for the first time during the 2nd European Cybersecurity Forum – CYBERSEC 2016.
The last year’s edition brought together over 120 senior adults. During lectures with experts from ICT companies they had a chance to find out more about the dangers in cyberspace. There was also time to ask questions and discuss the issues raised by the attendees.
