PAT THORNTON

Head of Technology Office at the Health Service Executive – Ireland

    Pat has over 25 years of experience in Public Sector IT with the last 16 of these in health. He started in the Revenue Commissioners and subsequently moved on to the HSE in 2001. He has held many roles in Infrastructure and Operations during his time in health and was instrumental in creating the first national network across the health system 2003. He introduced data centre co-location services and the first formal disaster recovery programs for key clinical and business applications. In 2010 Pat led the delivery of the national health network, which is now the network of choice for application and systems delivery across the entire public health sector in Ireland.
    Pat was key in setting the vision and the implementation of the national IT security platforms for the HSE in the areas of Anti Virus, Encryption and Secure Web Gateway. Pat is the Head of the Technology Office in the HSE and is passionately leading the change agenda for the provision of digital services to the HSE staff. As a member of the Irish Computer Society and CHIME Pat is dedicated to learning and sharing knowledge across all organisations for the benefit of all.
