    Professor Harald Haas is an inventor, entrepreneur and world-renowned expert in wireless communications. Currently, Professor Haas holds the Chair of Mobile Communications at the University of Edinburgh and works to translate theories into new technology which will enable
    energy efficient, high speed data connection to the internet anytime and anywhere. Professor Haas has been responsible for the invention and patenting of many new techniques which have formed the basis of entirely new research within this field.
    At TED Global in 2011, Haas pioneered and coined the term “LiFi” (Light Fidelity), which is a new wireless communications technique which uses LEDs for high speed wireless data transmission. He has published more than 400 papers and holds 43 patents.
